S7: Sri P.N. Raman (1910- 1/7/1996): A grandson remembers…

Sri. P.N Raman & Srimati Ponnachi

Today 5/7/2020 is his 25th Thiti (Death Anniversary) Shri P.N Raman, A humble soul, a hard working and soft spoken humane human. I have very loving and fond childhood memories of interactions with him. I am writing with gratitude and from my own life experiences and some recollections of my parents of him.

A young lad born in 1910 who’s parents expired at an early age was raised up by his uncle in Madras (T.N-Chennai) along with a younger brother. There he married and had 3 kids, his family for better job opportunities moved to Bangalore in 1930s. They settled in near the Raj Bhavan area of Bengaluru they had 5 more kids here. They stayed in the staff quarters where few of their relatives also stayed with the family. The father of 8 moved up the ranks gradually to a job as a supervisor at the government guest house, he was very hardworking leaving to work early morning and returning mostly at midnight after attending to work of hospitality. His spouse my grandma supported the nurturing of the 8 kids, home and connecting the extended families in Bengaluru. He and his wife supported & encouraged his children in their education as a result of which his kids studied hard-well & served as listed here 1.officer in Vidhana Soudha, 2.Mechanical Engineer in the State government, 3.Officer In Central Excise,4.Doctor for GoK, 5.Associate of Mico-Bosch, 6.Officer in BDA, 7. A good Bank Officer and they served well for their families and society. The Grandfather lived and loved his grandkids till the ripe old age of 86years. This is a memoir of him through the eyes of one of his grandchildren, a child of his 3rd son the doctor, he was very affectionate and kind hearted to all and the grandchild was very lucky to have a grandfather like him, as his grandmother had passed away before he was born.

The earliest clear memory of my grandpa is of him at my Montessori (Baba Nursery) picking me up to take me back home. The way he used to wait at the gates give me a warm smile with those gleaming shiny eyes. It was not hard to find him as he stood out from the rest of the crowd with those white hair and White matching Dhothi-vesti and he held my hands carefully to walk me home about 5 streets away never letting go of my hands from school until we reached home, he had a slow gait, I used to want to walk faster. He was so happy to walk me home once I had commented to him why he is wearing Dhothi and not pants like the other people around, for that he laughed out loud and told it to my parents and from the next day he came in his pants to pick me up, it showed me how humble he was to oblige for a 4 year old grandchilds wishes. I remember he used to also take me to shops and buy some stuff for home. I remember times he used to discipline and get angry at some other elder kids when they may have tried to bully me. He was very protective and supportive of me, I may have been the most luckiest grandson to receive his care and affection. I was a very naughty kid but never did my grandpa hurt me, he always was kind and loving. I am so ever grateful for his grace and smiling face, the last time I remember about him was he getting old and bed-ridden when ever we used to visit him at my uncle’s place he used to be eager to get up and speak to me. In 1996 There was final time when I recollect I tried speaking with him as he laid down and with his white cataract eyes he never replied to my voice only glancing at my face. The next thing I remember was his funeral a young mind dint understand that was his last farewell, I think that was my first experience of loss & silent grief. I dont remember myself crying or shedding tears Its just a vague memory of him being placed in the black hearse van with flowers over him. Only his empty cot remained at home. I think writing this has been a catharsis It has brought some tears of gratefulness for him, I feel am at peace now knowing he was at peace then.

As I grew up I tried to understand him more through my parents recollections of him. My mother said he was really fit for his name a good character a Maryada purush like king Ram with humility and nobility. I admire his hard working nature to raise a family of 8 kids from his humble beginnings. He was a workaholic also my MaPa say he used to cycle and walk even long distances till about 70years of age. This is what I believe kept him quite hearty and healthy till 86years and I want to apply in my life and family too.. I am inspired by his caring, affectionate nature and perseverance and these qualities are what I feel he left behind as a legacy, not of tangible wealth for his kids but I see more valuable is the intangible character values I see inherited more in my father and uncles of care, affection, love, hardwork and value for education and morality that I would like us to inherit from my grandpa and grandma. My dad tells me when he was a kid his dad- my grandpa advised him to study and work well & never to lie, steal or beg and he holds dear these simple words from a simple person to his heart. This were his guiding principles I too accept these golden words of my grandpa receiving its as his legacy/heirloom from his journey of life. I had a wonderful Grandpa I wish I had been able to understand how big an impact he has created in my parents and my life and thank him then when he was alive. No Issue I believe this thankful / grateful heart will be heard by him also as his DNA of nature and nurture survives in me and my familiatives.

Thank You Thatha for your love and care. I wish I could have met my grandma too.

Thank You_ You will be always remembered. I remember the white vesti and half sleeve shirt, your round pegged wooden cot at the old sheet roofed house, your strong worked out arms, also the distinguished scent on you. Your smile and laugh. The streets we walked together..

We Live because They Did..

I am Thankful to all my Gurus remembering and cherishing their contribution in my life. My respects and salutes- Pranams to my first Natural gurus my Mother and Father and their Natural Biological Gurus their Parents my grandparents. Special thanks to my maternal grandpa Shri Sadasivan who had named me.

I am next thankful to my Family gurus at home my relatives, neighbhours and friends of my parents. My earliest 5 years of life. My uncle’s and aunts and cousins who showered their care and affection on me.

I acknowledge the educational gurus my teachers and friends at schools (St.Annes,Florence,SDA,Cathedral,FIITJEE) especially Mr.Singh K Antony sir who took special care to nurture my interest in expression through speaking and writing. GRP’s Model of Healthy_Living: How I Reduced 18kgs & 2cms in fat.

This post is dedicated to my late Grandma Subbalakshmi Sadasivan who took an active interest in her grandkid’s health and well being through which she encouraged me to improve physique & personality (At occasions she had even made me gulp raw eggs down my throat as I was a skinny child & teenager). I am grateful to my dad (Happy FathersDay June21-2020 today Dad!!) who is a loving presence and my activity buddy who helped me learn (Karate-MMA, Swimming & Yoga) and my mom- an excellent mother- doctor & cook, a nutritionist and youtubewatcher trying out her new recipes at home:). I thank these 3 very special people in my life & also the many teachers in the health & well being areas whom I have learnt from and inspired me. My Prayers to the ALLmighty & all great souls who have blessed me and fit minds who have inspired me in this Personal Transformation Journey and I Write2Share Hoping this helps. A. INTRO: I have been a thin kid until my teenage & have put on weight from 2012 when my lifestyle & Stressful life had changed and have been overweight around 78-80+Kgs for about 8 years. Recently It’s the worst troubled times we all are facing during the Corona Lockdowns and people are anticipating the future economic downtime. These stresses actually caused me to put on weight and weaken my health upto March2020, where I reached my all lifetime max weight of 86Kg(BMI29) and waist size of 37 Inches. I am happy now in sharing that I moved with persistence from a weight of 86 kg(173Cms Height) before April (Apr-1 fools day) to a weight of 70Kg(BMI22)(69.6kg on 9/7/20,68Kg on 17/7/20) & 34″ waist size on 21st June2020(IYD) (Its The Fool to Cool Journey), I am grateful about this transformation of health through YogaExercise and other Initiatives I am listing below. There are multiple factors I became aware of which when handled could bring about these result about 1.3 Kgs/Week of healthy fat loss and 2″ of waist size reduction (I was Overweight/ WaistSize-Is Obesity-Diabetic RiskIndicator) and on the positive side increased the Happiness & Harmony in my life.

I was sharing my journey on WhatsApp also on the groups focused on health Right-Habits group with health experts & enthusiasts in it, who shared their advices & recommendations. You too can join. There are people whom I credit for extending their expertise and support Dr.Gowri & Mr.Som Khare who shared about nutrition, Priyanka Shekar (psychology counselor) who suggested me to measure and track my progress, and Yoga instructors (Karthik Pr, Dr.Manish and Kiran) in group who teach & practice Yoga, recommended asanas like suryanamaskara (also thanks to Yoga and prasadam buddies Santosh, Anupam and TD clubmates & our Folk Guide SriVigrahaDasa Prabhu for his spiritual guidance) and other specific asanas for fat loss and Bindu Balegar who suggested to visualize to achieve, I took all these advises & feedback seriously and applied it with my unique integration style to get impressive SMART-results. Many of my friends appreciated, some of them resolved to start/stregthen their transformation journey too(KN,PC,PS,AR,FP..etc), some contacted eager to know how I am achieving these good results and took my suggestions and recommendations for their health transformations. For the benefit in future of others who may use it, I am sharing the lessons I learnt & personal tips&techniques we followed/practiced these 3 months in form of an easily remember-able acronym “Pr(ASADH)” which considers the 1 approach & 5 most critical factors which I used for Designing this transformation journey, Health and life. The Letters can be arranged alternatively as Pr.DASHA. too but it makes less stickiness of association to memory it can be linked to an uncommon name PrADASH, but as PRASADHam sounds well and is meaningfully popular in India it means spiritually “Kindness/Grace” materially “Holy offerings/food” and the connection between Food and Phyical-Psychological-Spiritual health is to be highlighted in the Model (as documented by Apple’s Founder-CEO Steve Jobs in his college days & tough times used to have Srila Prabhupada’s ISKCON’s Prasadam in USA) I choose this fit Acronym to the model-Idea. Coincidentally it sounds similar to the authors second name, but the important connection is divine food, like Elixir/Manna/Salsabil in Bible & Abrahamic Religious Traditions or Amrith in hindu philosophy leads to eternal life. This Pr(ASADH) Kite-model aims/intends to be a personal/families/Communities’ portal of access to Vitality, Happiness & Longevity.

The WikiPic serendiptiously is from the very temple I visited often during my college days at Bengaluru and enjoyed the mouth watering prasadam. My gratitudes..

These are the visible-measurable results achieved. from 86Kg to 70kgs(68kgLatestUpdate17/10/20), from 37Inches Waist Size to 34Inches, From not able to do 1 pushup to doing 10+ in a row. Pullups from 0 to doing 3+ pullups.. The fatloss & muscle gain journey, Fat to fit progress has increased my energy and confidence to take on challenges in the path Clearly, Carefully and Comprehensively.

There is so much to share as the research, knowledge accessed, techniques practiced and experiences I went through made me come up with important changes I made in the 1 approach with 5 categories amounts to about 20. And the Quad Core Holistic Systems approach makes this a powerful tool to bring required results for fitness aspirants who get this, practice it & share it. I can assure with conviction, this can not only change our weight but also our health & lives for the better.

B. THE-MODEL: Here We Go:

Introducing the System in an acronym Pr(A.S.A.D.H) Diamond Kite Model for holistic health transformation and management.

Here is the list of the Parameters in the Model.

1. Pr stands for the Approach Proper-Practice leads to right 1.Process & 2.Progress.

2. A is : Awareness-Attitude (Click on Blue Texts for The Steps– Detailed Lessons)

3. S is : Stressfree-Sleep

4. A is : Activity-Accountability

5. D is : Diet-Dosage

6. H is: Habit-ation-Harmony

There is a metaphorical visual in mind for the framework which communicates the concepts in this model very effectively. The Pr(ASADH)s Health Model(Fig1) is in the form of a kite soaring in the sky.. People who have flown a kite can understand to raise the kite up in the air needs skillful handling of the thread or rope to different sides/ways. Similarly these points form the corners and tail of the kite. If we want to keep our health up and fit, it needs constant skilled balancing act of these factors on the Pr-ASADHs Integrated Holistic Health model, conversely if any of the 5 factor weakens or fails it leads to undesired weight changes, health crises and mismanagement.

C. CONCLUSION: This is the Key Idea of Pr-ASADHs Kite model of Holistic Health Management.. I am happy to share this with you.. I have used this framework systematically and achieved the path of health transformation from 86kg(BMI29) overweight stage to 70kg Normal weight BMI22 you too can use this for your health and happiness. From a place where I was ashamed of my body and physique to a place where I am now famed for having a flexible and admirable self, it has helped me improve and progress Physically, Mentally, Emotionally and Socially-Spiritually. I recommend it for you to explore and apply the Pr-ASADH’s Framework to achieve your goal in lives too.

Also the way I found these top five criteria is due to my earlier trainings (Medical History, Architect and Designer(CPDM-IISc)) and learnings (Multi-Yoga, MMA, Kalaripayattu, Art, Dance as Passion). There is so many important and useful things in above topics to share if I could share my full personal Transformation & Growth story (how I’m getting associated health benefits of overall social value (goodlooks:)) and spiritual progress from this model) in a book and apps these concepts could be understood and utilized in a deeper way which can bring greater results through the Diamond-Kite Model.
