“On the topic of suicide, it is very easy to advise the right thing to do. But in reality, the affected person often shuts himself or herself off. Keeping a distance from others. Often hiding behind closed doors. Not giving access for others to help. I lost my close friend to suicide at Institute. He was brilliant and wanted to do the best research ever done. His experiments would be perfect, no less. It took him a long time to do his research, partly because he chose a very difficult problem. Probably all his batchmates finished before him and I think he was the last student of the batch finishing his work. I was not there at that time; like most students, I had gone on a post doc, in my case, to the National Health Institute . I got the news via a letter from another friend that this friend of mine had committed suicide in his hostel room on the eve of his PhD defence. I believe the overseas examiner, an ex Intitutian, had commented in the thesis report that the work was good but asked what the relevance of classical protein chemistry was in the scientific world where recombinant DNA technology was coming up. This devastated my friend. All his hard work, standing overnight many, many times in the cold room, shivering, manually collecting fractions to purify his protein and planning and executing perfect experiments… was all a waste. And he took his own life.
I think if some of us batchmates and friends were there, we might have been able to save him. He was alone and lonely and unable to handle the condescending comments of the examiner. I don’t know if there was any other factor leading up to this since I was not there at the time. It is important to keep in touch; with email and WhatsApp, that is easier these days.
“1984/85. I left IISc in Oct 84 and this happened a few months later. Yes, you can refer to this case. He was also from a very poor family in Punjab. He was supported in his studies and otherwise by his brother who was doing PhD in physics in Panjab Univ. The suicide created a vacuum that cannot be filled. Mohammad Shami’s father Tausif Ali used to be the fastest bowler of Amroha. Their yorkers often scatter batsmen’s sticks. People all over the world said go and get professional cricket training in the club. There will be no bigger cricketer in Uttar Pradesh. But Tausif Ali didn’t have money. Everyone gave advice, but there was no one to help financially. Mohammad Shami’s father considered this as his destiny. Started family life at the saying of mom and dad. Tauseef Ali had 5 sons and within five cricket was created from the beginning. Little Shami was the fastest of all these. In Abbu’s cricket training, Mohammad Shami used to learn new things. Tausif Ali is sure that Mohammad Shami will fulfill my incomplete dream of becoming a cricketer. Tausif Ali realized why he could not become a big cricketer? He was ready to go beyond all limits to fulfill his son’s dream.
Tauseef Ali didn’t want to leave any core-exercise left for his son. When Mohammad Shami was 15 years old, Tausif Ali used to train his son to bowl. They had wickets ready in their field. Where Mohammad Shami used to practice bowling day and night. Then Tausif Ali thought now son needs a good academy. They sold the land and thought of enrolling a son in an academy in Moradabad. Coach Badruddin said I’ll watch this boy bowling first then I’ll decide. Mohammad Shami started bowling and the legendary batsman of Badruddin academy went kneeling. Badruddin immediately accepted his disciple to Mohammad Shami. Mohammad Shami sacrificed his life to fulfill his father’s dream. They didn’t do a naga a day. Even on the day of Eid, Mohammad Shami used to go bowling after offering Namaz. Whenever there was a cricket match in the academy, Mohammad Shami used to ask for old ball from the coach after the match was over. One day Badruddin asked what do you do with him? Mohammed Shami replied – I practice reverse swing. Since that day Badruddin himself used to get Mohammed Shami practiced reverse swing.
Badruddin took Mohammad Shami himself with him for the trial of UP Under-19 team. Selectors did the same to Mohammad Shami, which was done to Bhadohi’s Yashaswal. Same thing said to both players, will see next year coming. Badruddin thought Mohammad Shami could go far in one year. In such a way, they cannot be left dependent on UP Cricket Board. Coach Badruddin told his father, send Mohammad Shami to Kolkata. If the club does good in cricket there then it will make a comfortable place in the state team. Tausif Ali had no other option or fore thought. He wanted to see son Mohammad Shami playing for India in any Surat. Mohammad Shami reached Kolkata, but he neither had food grains to fill his stomach nor a roof to cover his head. Mohammed Shami didn’t want to put more pressure on his father. They decided, now whatever you have to do is do it on your own. Assistant Secretary of Bengal Cricket Association Devrat Das saw Mohammad Shami bowling in a match. Devvrat Das understood that this boy will overcome the world of cricket.
Devrat asked Mohammad Shami where do you live? Mohammed Shami could not say anything. I was hungry too. The survival was going hard. Sometimes railway station and sometimes bus stand. 4. Wear Masks and avoid eating open outside food in cities for 2-5 days of diwali. You can prevent cancer by reducing ur inhalation & ingestion of toxins from the fire crackers deposited as layer on the city and citizens or worse in nearby vegetable farms.
5. During Take bath twice a day, Wash ur hands often, and keep the doors and windows closed or semi open. As smoke can get into ur home and lungs and on skin.
6. Take Special Care of Allergic prone people, Asthmatic, and weak senior citizens and kids also traumatized exodus seeking pets or Stressed Urban Animals, Birds & Beneficial Insects.

If we look deeply at deepavali even if it’s a story or reality there is lesson from the journey(Ramayana). its not only Rama who returned to Ayodhya it’s his fellow yatris(Companions) Brother Lakshmana and life partner Sita too.
